Electronics Design Engineer

As an Electronics Design Engineer, you work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined environment to turn ideas and concepts into manufacturable products. You are responsible for creating, drawing, building and testing electrical schematics and circuit boards for all the new and already existing Tacx smart home trainers. This means you are involved in the concept creation, prototyping and production as well as continues improvement on existing Tacx smart trainers.
In this position you develop and create hardware using tools like schematic entry software, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs all keeping in mind weigh design tradeoffs to create systems that provide maximum performance within the constraints of size/volume, power, thermodynamics, and cost.
The Engineering and R&D department
Our product electrical engineering team is a small, fast-growing team of professionals who are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the hardware for all the smart trainer products that Tacx makes. In this position you are part of our Engineering department, consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers. You will work in close cooperation with other engineers to design and develop products at our office and manufacturing facility in Oegstgeest. Aside from all your local coworkers, you’ll work together with international colleagues from different kinds of disciplines all over the world. You will report to our Electrical Engineering Team Lead.
What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
- You architect, design, implement and test hardware solutions with a large part of analog circuitry for Tacx cycling trainer products.
- You create and draw schematics for electro-magnetic driven brake units that meets performance requirements and follows design standards
- Have a good understanding of the principles behind motor drives and the controls needed for it.
- Bring up and test hardware on bare boards and validate platform performance
- Use your knowledge and experience on Electro Magnetic Compatibility when designing hardware
- Collaborate with other people and teams to come up with creative solutions to complex problems.
What do we expect from you?
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, hardware engineering or similar
- Strong familiarity with EDA tools like Altium Designer
- Strong experience creating hardware for microcontrollers and analog circuits for electromagnetic/motor controllers or E-bike platforms on embedded systems.
- Experience working with modern low-power wireless Bluetooth, ANT+, and Wifi Radios
- Experience using digital communication protocols like SPI, UART, and I2C to interface with sensors and ICs
- Rudimentary understanding of physics, math, and mechanics to understand how they apply to cycling and trainers
- Solid written and verbal communication skills in English (and preferably Dutch as well)

- Experience working with Nordic nRF wireless MCU solutions
- Experience working on motor control applications and electromagnetics
- Experience in analog circuit design for sensors and electromagnetic actuators
- Relevant personal projects
- Future interest in pursuing leadership roles
- Hands-on electronics hardware experience (e.g. soldering, measuring)
- Experience working in product design and collaborating with manufacturing
- Passion for fitness and sports including competitive cycling
