Job description – Automation Engineer Pharma

As an automation engineer you are the subject-matter expert (SME) for BMS (Building management system) and EMS (Environmental Monitoring System). You are responsible for new or existing systems, as well as maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs in the automation area. Furthermore, you are responsible for the life-cycle of automation systems and its infrastructure including leading contractors working on the automation system if needed. You will be a key stakeholder in developing our future automation center of excellence bringing together state of art practices from the market into our daily corporate life of automated systems. 

Your general activities will be:
•    Contribute to the automation strategy (road map), concepts and implementing proposals;
•    Implementing software changes and patch management;
•    Creating and maintaining (technical) documentation (for ex: guidelines, SOPs, end user work instruction) and compiling maintenance checklists of automated systems;
•    Perform asset management on systems and ensure support contracts with suppliers;
•    Providing hands on expertise and technical guidance;
•    Supporting maintenance supplier and internal teams on the control systems repairs, design changes, and projects because of troubleshooting or performance evaluation; 
•    Coordinating and supervising alarm management;
•    On-call service (approx. 1 week every 6 weeks) may be needed;
•    Ensure activities on the automation systems are executed according to applicable procedures and data integrity practices.

As an automation engineer you have the following competences:

You do also have the following experience/knowledge and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Automation, IT or similar. You have a minimum of 4 years work experience as Automation Engineer;
  • Experience in working with several internal or external departments (IT, operations, quality, engineering and maintenance) to carry out projects or tasks is a must;
  • Knowledge of database management;
  • Consistent track record in the field of BMS (Building Management System)/EMS (Environmental Monitoring System), DLS (Data-logging System) such as Siemens;
  • Experience in programming/troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs);
  • Experience with MES interface is desirable;
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).
