ProQR is currently recruiting an (associate) research technician with histology expertise to join the in vivo team for a maternity cover (1-year temporary contract). The in vivo team, within the R&D department is responsible for the execution of in-house and external studies in rodents, and the analysis of tissues collected.

Location: Leiden, NL (on-site)

The Role:

The (Associate) Research Technician will support the histology activities related to in vivo studies including tissue processing, cutting, preparing slides and staining (routine/IHC/FISH). Additional tasks will involve supporting necropsy (rodents), method development, troubleshooting, laboratory organization and associated administrative tasks.

We are looking for a candidate with hands-on experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • Basic histological techniques including tissue processing, sectioning, and routine staining.
  • Conventional microscopy and basic image analysis.
  • Advanced staining techniques including FISH and IHC.
  • Necropsy procedures (rodents); sample collection, processing, and storage.

We expect our Research Technician to:

  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree (Dutch: HLO) in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or related field with hands-on experience in histology. Or middle-level applied education (Dutch: MLO) with 2+ years of working experience with histological procedures.
  • Be solution and result driven.
  • Develop new or improved methods and protocols.
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments.
  • Analyze experiments and prepare (basic) data reports and presentations.
  • Take care of laboratory organization, equipment, and related administrative tasks.

Not required, but advantageous:

  • Hands-on experience in fluorescence /confocal microscopy, slide scanner, and image analysis.
  • Experience in basic histopathological assessment of key organs.
  • Art 12/13f2b, 9 or equivalent certificate required to perform animal studies in the Netherlands.
